James

Overview.

I lead design organizations that turn complexity into clarity.

I’ve led global design initiatives for organizations including Grocery Outlet, TradeLens (IBM + Maersk), FourKites, American Express, and PCMag, creating unified design languages, accessibility standards, and measurable efficiencies across digital ecosystems.

My focus is on systematizing creativity — establishing design governance, embedding data into decision-making, and aligning Legal, Security, and Engineering around compliant, accessible experiences. Across these programs, I’ve guided multidisciplinary teams and embedded UX processes that reduce design debt, accelerate delivery, and strengthen cross-functional alignment.

My Approach

At the core of my approach is a belief that great design is built on balance — between people, process, and pixels.

  • People: Empower teams through collaboration, mentorship, and shared ownership.
  • Process: Build frameworks that balance structure with flexibility and accountability.
  • Pixels: Deliver work that’s crafted, cohesive, and scalable across every touchpoint.

This approach has guided my leadership across multiple organizations, from building design systems to integrating research, accessibility, and analytics into the product lifecycle.

Beyond Work

Outside of work, I’m an artist working in digital and mixed media — exploring how structure and creativity intersect across canvas, print, and screen. I also co-host The One Love Art Sessions, a podcast celebrating art, culture, and process.

Whether leading teams, defining systems, or crafting interfaces, I focus on creating clarity where complexity lives.
